What We Do

With five classic bushcamps in the South Luangwa National Park, The
Bushcamp Company is a safari operation that runs using two very basic
principles at its foundation; those of luxury and experience.
Put
simply, the trips that we arrange for our guests are designed around an
idea of providing the highest levels of hospitality in specialised
bushcamps, whilst a host of highly trained staff provide the paths and
knowledge that will open up the African continent to exploration.
Bushcamp Company trips
normally involve walking safaris, where we take
a small and select group of people through the ever-changing bush on
foot. Each of our bushcamps is located within walking distance of
another, and so a typical trip would include staying at several of our
base camps and travelling between them during the cooler parts of the
day. Our staff co-ordinate the different locations; greeting you at your
destination with a meal and a much needed drink, providing the
atmosphere to relax and relive once-in-a-lifetime tales of walking
through the raw African bush.
We pride ourselves on the exclusivity that we offer and limit ourselves
to six people per camp. This small number means that we can offer a
truly personal service and tailor each trip to suit the individual; a
genuine claim that we feel very few competitors can match. Our trips are
designed with direct communication between us and the customer, and this
close relationship is the start to something that in no way can be
matched by some package holiday deal.
We understand, for example, that not everyone appreciates the thrill of
observing a lion kill on foot and would rather have the security of a
vehicle beneath their feet. Upon request, we can provide other ways of
wandering through Africa; game drives are a standard alternative.
Additionally,
Zambia is the only country in Africa that allows game drives by
spotlight, and this opens up an entirely new world to explore.
The African bush changes drastically at night, and a whole unseen
plethora of wildlife go about their business during the dark hours; we
provide the means and opportunity to venture through this rarely
observed and special time. Twilight is the domain of the leopard, and
we've had some very special moments with the big cat!
For
larger parties (weddings, etc.), we also run another operation that
caters for larger groups..
Unlike our bushcamps, Mfuwe Lodge is one of two permanent structures in
the national park and with tarmac roads, it can provide all year access
to the park. Built to compete with high class hotels and resorts, the
Lodge has been home to innumerable honeymoon couples, anniversary
parties and executive outings, where the luxurious facilities provide a
permanent and comfortable base from which one can explore the central
regions of the South Luangwa National Park. Whilst a slightly different
business model to our bushcamps, Mfuwe Lodge has been founded on the
same principles and we're confident that any guest will find their stay
highly comfortable and enriched with the offerings that Africa has to
give!
Whilst we boast about the level to which we accommodate your needs, our
safaris are little without the magnificence of the South Luangwa. We
specifically chose to operate in this area because it hails back to the
pioneering days when travelling in Africa was still a genuine affair,
and we've fallen in love with that romantic image. The Web Tour
continues with The South
Luangwa, a short synopsis on the basic geography and nature of the
national park...
